You've come to the right place. The MDC Canine Trainer Academy’s comprehensive training program instructs the skills that students need to become a professional dog trainer. Our program, led by MDC’s Head Trainer, Hank Cocking, is based on proven training methods, emphasizing positive reinforcement, and understanding of canine psychology, and will be resourceful to the beginning trainer as well as enhancing a current career.
One of the unique strengths of the MDC Canine Trainer Academy is that you will receive the opportunity to view a premier facility in its day-to-day operation: its highs and lows, challenges, and successes—giving you a real-life look at the dog training industry.
Our goal is to certify professional canine trainers of the highest quality through an excellent education and practical experience. Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive certification as a professional dog trainer from MDC Canine Trainer Academy.
This 14-week course of instruction prepares you for a career in advanced training principles including behavior, obedience, and specialty areas. Graduates may find suitable employment in veterinary clinics, boarding kennels, training kennels, obedience clubs, pet sitting, dog walking, and private dog training companies. As a student, you will learn the skills of working with basic and advanced obedience dogs, basic and advanced behavior problems, Protection and Scent Discrimination Training. Upon completion of this program, students will receive the Midwest Dog Center Canine Trainer Academy certificate of Master Canine Training and Behavior Specialist and will be able to conduct private lessons, group lessons, and on-site, private lessons.
Through a combination of lecture and hands-on training students will learn training theory and techniques in the areas below.
Training class times will vary slightly but will include 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (excluding holidays). The cost for the 14 week course is $14,000.
